Instagram re-compresses everything you upload. Give it a video that is already the right size and format, and the result stays sharper. Feed (4:5) is selected; switch to Reels for 9:16.
Your files stay on your device. Nothing is uploaded.
This browser can’t compress video. Please use Chrome, Edge, Opera or Safari 17+ on a computer.

Why uploads look blurry
4K or HDR sources are scaled and tone-mapped by Instagram, which costs detail and contrast.
60 fps is converted to 30 fps on many accounts.
Very high bitrates (phone originals) are compressed harder than a moderate one.
Uploading over mobile data with “Data saver” on uploads a lower-quality version. Turn on Settings → Data usage → Upload at highest quality.
This preset fixes the first three before you upload. Then send the file to your phone (AirDrop, Google Drive or a cable) and post it from the Instagram app.
Crop or fit?
For a horizontal video, “Fill, crop edges” fills the 4:5 or 9:16 frame and cuts the sides; “Fit with bars” keeps the whole picture with black bars. Choose under Advanced settings → Video.
Questions
What is the best video size for Instagram?
1080×1350 (4:5) for feed posts and 1080×1920 (9:16) for Reels and Stories, H.264 at 30 fps.
Does Instagram reduce video quality?
Yes, every upload is re-encoded. Uploading a video that already matches its settings minimises the loss.
